Delia Associates Celebrates 50 Years in Business

“When my father founded Delia Associates 50 years ago, he did so with a distinct purpose in mind,” says Ed Delia, President of Delia Associates, a NJ-based firm specializing in brand development, website development and search marketing. “He wanted to create a lasting legacy that would remain strong, long after he was gone.” Michael A. Delia, who established the company in 1964 and passed away in 2012, certainly achieved his dream, as the firm he founded is now celebrating its golden anniversary.

“50 years in this industry is no small feat,” explains Ed Delia, who now heads the firm. “Since my father founded Delia Associates, countless traditional NJ-based advertising agencies that refused to change with the times have gone out of existence, and many others have been acquired by larger entities, some of which are headquartered outside the United States. But we’re still here.”

This certainly is not to imply that the firm or its clientele have not changed over the past half century. “We’ve benefitted from consistent growth in terms of revenue, number of clients served, and also personnel over the last five years,” comments Delia. “And all signs indicate that our upward momentum will continue into the foreseeable future,” he added.

Delia attributes the firm’s growth to a number of factors. Some involve staying true to the deeply rooted values of excellent client service, attentiveness on which the firm was built. Others include a willingness to embrace new capabilities, namely brand building and digital marketing. “It took a number of years for clients and companies in our target market to understand the concept of brand. But once they did, our proprietary brand development process was well-positioned to meet their needs. We continually evolve our model, and believe it is the best solution for small and mid-sized organizations in today’s marketplace.”

What further sets Delia Associates apart from many other marketing firms, explains Delia, is “a true and foundational respect for the synergy between brand, website and search marketing. This is so critical to the success of every brand today, large or small.”

The tools that Delia Associates uses to deliver brands to the marketplace have changed dramatically over the years. “Although my father could not have envisioned the rise of the Internet, e-commerce, apps and social media when he founded the firm 50 years ago, he always insisted on keeping current with the latest technologies,” Delia recalls. “From the earliest days of the firm right up to the present, the nature of the industry has been one of constant, sometimes explosive, change. Today, instead of creating and placing traditional PR, print, broadcast and display advertising, our efforts have become more centered on encouraging potential customers to engage with our clients, to seek information, and create a relationship. To make this happen, we utilize a continuously evolving toolkit that today includes digital, search and content marketing, in addition to social, mobile, interactive media and more.”

So where might Delia Associates be in another 50 years? Delia comments, “I’ll still be right here, still independent, and still using the latest technologies to realize our vision: to create a bigger future for the brands we serve.” He concludes with a smile, “We might even be run by another person with the same last name, Delia.”
