When You Think “Engagement,” Do You Think of Pizza Hut?

Pizza Hut has a great special this Valentine’s Day: a $10,000 proposal.

Well, it’s $10,010 – you have to pay for the pizza too.

Pizza Hut announced a Valentine’s Day special, expiring today (Valentine’s Day).  Copy of the website is below (click to enlarge), but you can also visit the Valentine’s Day Proposal Special here.
I’m pretty sure the whole thing isn’t serious.  In fact, the fine print says they’ll give you your money back the next month if you don’t use it.  However, the promotion is genius.  Any takers? Who knows?  What it did was give them attention.

If you Google “Pizza Hut Valentine” the Pizza Hut site doesn’t even come up first – it comes up third, and that’s underneath news articles on top of that.  That means that there are other places writing about them too.  The LA Times, New York Daily News, and Huffington Post all wrote articles giving page 1 results.

Here’s what all this means for Pizza Hut:

  • Loads of extra traffic
  • A ton of free advertising
  • A ton of links back to their site

All Pizza Hut had to do was generate some content that was remarkable, noteworthy, or even just amusing.  The links greatly help search engine optimization.  They’re creating brand awareness. This is precisely the type of thing people pay big bucks for.

So, what about you?  What are you doing that’s remarkable?  What are you doing that’s noteworthy?  Generate some content that will get some buzz.  It doesn’t have to generate as much buzz as a major fast food chain, just enough to get some people to notice.

At Delia Associates, we’re always ready to help with blogs, social media, and content generation if you’d like.  We’d love to hear from you.
